Samsung wants DeX not to be an anecdote as previous attempts by Motorola or Microsoft, and is working to be natively compatible with Linux distributions.
Samsung steps on the accelerator: DeX will be able to replace a PC completely
Samsung surprised everyone with DeX, the dock launched as accessory of the Samsung Galaxy S8 that opened the doors to the longed for convergence. In that sense, the company modified Android so that the experience in big screen was similar to the one of desktop as much as possible. Now, however, Samsung wants to be even more ambitious, making convergent technology compatible with GNU / Linux distributions.
To do this they have created the application Linux on Galaxy, which although it is in the test phase, has the challenge of being able to fulfill bringing the experience of desktop to the mobile, later to take it, without change of device, to the screen of a monitor. Samsung poses it as, for example, a solution for developers: write code on mobility and continue the task at home with DeX.
Linux on Galaxy allows you to run several operating systems, offering the possibility to choose between different distributions. Regarding its daily operation, Samsung explains that if Android does not contain a function or app for what you need, simply open Linux on Galaxy and run the chosen system, with the advantage of being able to take it to a larger screen that offers more comfort with keyboard and mouse.
On the other hand, during the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Samsung announced that it had improved DeX as a gaming environment. Now that announcement makes more sense as the company has come to agreements to collaborate with game developers such as Super Evil Megacorp's Vainglory, Game Insight's Survival Arena, Eric Froemling's BombSquad and Netmarble's Lineage 2 Revolution. The performance will be good because many of them already use the Vulkan API, which makes much better use of resources.
The expected Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition will also be compatible with, making that pocket experience much larger and closer to the original.
