We all know someone who at the time of taking something prefers to pay only their consumption and not divide the spending in equal parts. A behavior that does not make you more unhappy ... in fact, on many occasions the people who waste the least are the ones who win the most success in life
Both literature and cinematography have been responsible for teaching us a stereotype of stingy people who, on many occasions, are far from what they really are. They are shown to us as sullen individuals, sometimes petty and usually moody, without enjoying a great social life and with a very small circle of friends. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Without taking into account extreme cases - a pathological stingy or compulsive wasteful - there are several studies on whether you can enjoy life with total normality someone who has as a rule not spend more than due and not waste a single penny. And the answer is a resounding yes.
The advantages of stinginess
It has been proven that those considered as stingy can thrive and achieve goals much more easily and quickly than those who have the habit of spending more cheerfully. The stingy is not in a hurry to achieve their goal, which usually set in the medium or long term, while a waster needs to invest more to get the benefits to arrive in the short term, something that in most cases causes them to turn into failed business .
The stingy man spends less money, but he invests it by acquiring what he really needs. Just unlike a wasteful man, who will acquire useless things just because he wants to have them. That causes that who saves ends up having a financial mattress that, in case of trouble or crisis, can solve any problem. On the other hand, it is not usually enough savings to deal with a setback, which is why you should pull credit cards or personal loans, having to pay a large amount of interest that in the long run still impoverish plus.
It is thus demonstrated that during an economic recession in which the population as a whole tends to become impoverished and lose purchasing power, people who have hitherto maintained an austere lifestyle - that is, they have been stingy in spending and have not squandered money-tend to overcome adversities more easily.
A person who does not like to waste is buying less clothes, but when it does, it is usually of a higher quality - even in a downgrade or store of balances. They do not conceive of having to buy several pieces of clothing at least they already do a good service. While a waster or compulsive buyer usually launches to any type of offer and to buy some products that a priori does not need, the stingy usually makes his purchases thinking that these have a long and profitable utility.
The effects on health
As for health-related issues, there are no specific studies that can show that being a gambler with money has a direct influence on a lesser life expectancy of wasteful people. As a general rule, they do not stand out because they are people with fragile health and, if they are, it is not a direct consequence of their austere life.
There is, however, a study of 140 individuals of both sexes at the beginning of this decade by the Nottingham University Business School. This research concluded that people who declared themselves as 'stingy' stood out for having healthy consumption habits, making better use of savings, not being easily influenced when buying and investing, and in definitive, to spend money in a more rational and less profitable way.
It was also noted in this publication that the majority of prejudices that society has towards stingy people are still mere stereotypes, mostly fictional characters. In fact he concluded that a miser-not a pathologist-does not make him unhappy to spend money; all it does is spend less, and it does so in a more responsible and effective way.
