One of the aspects that most concern when we do with any technological product is the support time that we will have. A time in which the brand is committed to offer parts, repairs, updates ... any type of need for the proper operation of the product. Before, the time of support was not so important and we could say that perhaps it was more extensive, but today that has changed.
The general rule (there are exceptions) is that firms are becoming more interested in selling new products than in supporting existing ones. A situation that sometimes gets worse painfully, especially if we talk about software. Programs usually have a defined life cycle in which they receive improvements and security updates and that is what happens to Office 2007.
We have seen it with Windows XP and recently with Windows Vista, being now the turn of Microsoft office suite in its version of Office 2007. And it will be next week, more precisely on October 10, when from the American company it will no longer support such a version and therefore will cease to launch the usual security patches.
Microsoft Office Suite 2007 already goes for the Service Pack 3 after being in the market more than ten years (arrived at the beginning of year 2007). Therefore and after twelve months after the arrival of this pack, will cease the support with what this implies: there will be no more security updates, nor arrival of improvements as we will not have the option to receive assistance due to problems with that version.
In this sense from Microsoft advise to move to a recent version, case of Office 2010, 2013 or 2016, being the latter the most advisable since it is the one that will have more life ahead. You can even think about switching to Microsoft Office 365, although here we will have to pull subscriptions.
And while we must not forget that on the horizon you can already guess the arrival of Microsoft Office 2019, which will be present in the second half of next year.
