Users of some flats in Barcelona are having problems with the law, so Airbnb comes to their aid.
There are no good times for Airbnb in Barcelona. And is that holiday rentals are immersed in intense controversy: are they legal or illegal? Can an individual rent his apartment or a room? Should this activity be restricted to professionals only?
In Barcelona they are clear: no, you can not get a black bonus by renting your apartment to third parties. For that reason in the last months part of the owners who meet on Airbnb have suffered a trickle of fines and penalties for exercising this type of activity.
That is why the platform has decided to accompany the owners in their struggles with the Barcelona city council. And you will do it through Easyoffer, a Spanish startup that acts as a marketplace for lawyers and legal advisory experts.
In this way, the Spanish company will offer access to specialized legal advice to people who occasionally share their home in a non-professional way and who have been affected by the sanctions for rental of tourist accommodation that are being produced in Barcelona in the last months.
Attorneys for property owners
Through this agreement between Easyoffer and Airbnb, an area of specialization will be created in the legal web that identifies law firms with experience in this field that can give the best advice to those affected of 'home sharing', that is, those people who habitually share their habitual residence in a non-professional way.
Thus, the owners will have direct access to five specialized law firms, being able to get advice and up to three budgets among which to compare to handle their case when facing possible sanctions.
And is that the City of Barcelona has opened up to date a total of 6,197 disciplinary files to supposedly irregular properties that were active inAirbnb.
For the town council, those sanctioned owners would have committed an alleged serious infringement, so they have had to respond to fines ranging from 30,000 to 60,000 euros.
