There will be a new trilogy of Star Wars, after Episode IX

We are a few weeks from the premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but it seems that Disney will not rest the franchise, it has just announced that it is preparing a new trilogy with Rian Johnson as director. That's right, the director of The Last Jedi will be in charge of directing this new trilogy, with new heroes, but in the same universe, as published today by Disney.

According to Disney:

As writer-director the The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and performed a powerful film which Lucasfilm and Disney are very proud of. In directing this new trilogy, which is separate from the episodic saga of Skywalker, Johnson will introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that the Star Wars lore has never explored before.

Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said "We all love working with Rian in The Last Jedi. It's a creative force, and seeing The Last Jedi create from start to finish was one of my biggest joys of my career. Rian will do incredible things with the empty canvas of this new trilogy "

It seems that Lucasfilm and Disney have quite confidence in Rian Johnson. And not only that, they are extremely happy with how The Last Jedi has turned out, which is good news. It is a great contrast to what happened with Rogue One, where rumors that many directed scenes had to be replaced, in addition to major changes at the end.

What films has Rian Johnson directed in the past?

Rian Johnson is a young director, but he has already directed films such as Looper, an excellent science fiction film, or Brick. Both films have received very good reviews.

Tremendous trust under a director is amazing, considering all the changes of which we have witnessed in recent months. As we discussed, Rogue One was strongly modified from the original vision when Disney brought new filmmakers to "correct" what Garth Edwards had created. And recently, Phil Lord and Chris Miller were replaced by Ron Howard, who will direct the film of Han Solo, to be released next year. And let's not forget that Colin Trevorow, who directed Jurassic World and was going to direct Episode IX, has now been replaced by J.J Abrams.

We look forward to learning more about these new films
